Service Description: This map represents Insect and Disease Risk, one of seven standard input layers which support the USFS State and Private Forestry Potential Assessment Redesign Project. The threshold for mapping risk is: "the expectation that, without remediation, 25 percent or more of the standing live basal area (BA) of trees greater than 1 inch in diameter will die over the next 15 years (starting in 2005) due to insects and diseases." It is derived from pct_baloss, the comprehensive version of the final results of the 2006 National Insect and Disease Risk Map (NIDRM) Project. Note that the most infested areas are not the highest risk; very infested areas are considered “lost”, so moderately infested areas are considered to be at the highest risk.
