Service Description: This map layer, utilizing data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), portrays Coalbed Methane fields based on producing wells in the U.S. There are also individual coal bed fields that make up a single basin. The layer depicts the location and extents of all 17 coalbed methane basins in the U.S.

Layers: Description: This dataset is field boundary polygons of Coalbed Methane (CBM) based on producing wells in the USA. Field outline polygons were created by buffering wells from each field. Buffered well polygons from each field were then unioned into a single polygon record (may contain multiple rings). A smoothing algorithm was applied to the polygons. Fields are coded with Geologic Ages, Formations, and Coal Names. Age Codes are Exxon Mobil Age Codes. This CBM field outline polygon layer was created to represent a very approximate area of CBM gas production from well point data. This layer is based on well data provided by individual organizations and state entities, which was not checked for accuracy or completeness.
